5’10 and Rocking Heels

At 5 feet 10 inches, being taller than the average girl can be quite exhausting. People constantly approach you commenting how tall you are, as if you didn’t know that already. Then, of course, there’s the common questions “Do you play basketball?” “Do you play volleyball?” To which my answer is, “Yes, I played both”. I must admit one of the most annoying questions I get is “Are you a model?” and when I respond with “No”, the next comment is “Well, you should model!” Let me just be clear here…NOT EVERY TALL GIRL WANTS TO MODEL! (I’ll talk more about that in a later post). Beyond that, there’s reaching on to top shelves to get things down for short people, trying to avoid low ceilings, dreading plane rides and sitting uncomfortably under desks or tables or in the back seat of a car.

But wait, there’s more! It can also be tough finding clothes and shoes that fit a tall girl like me. Short dresses will almost always look like a T-shirt on my long frame, and “regular” length jeans on the average sized girl are easily capris or, even worse, high-waters on me. What’s one of my ultimate struggles though? Shoes! Stores either have a 9 and a half or sometimes even an 11 in stock, but hardly ever anything in between! It shouldn’t be this hard to find a size 10! (inserts “wahh” emoji).

Though it can be annoying, I don’t let the lack of 10’s discourage me. Whenever I can find a good pair of sneakers, sandals or boots that fit my big feet yet don’t make them look huge, I purchase them! And as a tall girl, you might be surprised to hear this, but one of my favorite kinds of shoes are heels!

I love wearing heels as a tall girl because, to me, they exemplify confidence! I don’t mind being taller than everyone else; I’m used to it! When I wear heels I feel fierce and fabulous, yet I have met so many tall girls who only wear flats or sandals so they won’t be “too tall”. I understand those feelings, though, because I have been there before. It was not until I graduated from college that I began feeling super confident in heels. But once I started wearing them, there was no turning back.

Heels are cute and made for everyone! Don’t ever be afraid to be too tall. If it’s Saturday night and you have your hair laid, makeup on fleek and your freakum dress picked out, you know you want to top it off with a bad pair of stilettos! But you’re reluctant because you’ll be taller than all your friends and even most of the guys at the club (however, I know from experience that tall boys appreciate tall girls and most times short boys do too)! But my advice to you is to just do it! Put on those sparkly stilettos, those tall wedges, or cute block heels. Be confident with who you are. As a tall girl, you automatically are the center of attention when you walk into a room and wearing heels only adds to your shine!

Being tall certainly has its advantages and disadvantages, but ultimately, the good outweighs the bad. We are like human giraffes! And everyone loves giraffes. In my opinion, being tall makes you confident. As a tall girl, you have to learn how to love yourself despite being different from most other girls. If you’re going to be the center of attention, you might as well own it! Never be ashamed of being a tall girl. As long as you love yourself for who you are, everyone else will too!

I challenge you to wear a pair of heels this week. Pull out your favorite cowgirl boots, peep toes, or pumps and show off that extra height.

So be confident, walk tall, and rock those heels, tall girl!

I’m 5’8 mostly everyone in the town I’m from is really short! So I felt like a giraffe compared to them! Specially with heels so I definitely understand!! And yes, walking with confidence with heels on is amazing!

I am very short…..i wouldn’t really relate with your struggles cause all i want is to be taller. I won’t have to swing my legs on some chairs, i will find shoes that are not too big and I will not have to stand on my toes to hug people. I can’t wait to see why you find the idea of being a model not so appealing by the way
